Speaking at NextMed Health on Prevention and Early Detection

Thanks to Daniel Kraft, MD and Shawna Butler, RN MBA I had the honor of speaking at NextMed Health today on the topic of the role of technology in re-imagining global healthcare. The process of re-imagining healthcare differs significantly depending on the region we focus on. In many parts of the world, such as Kenya, wider Africa, and other emerging markets, we face a distinct set of challenges compared to Western markets. I firmly believe that a fundamental shift towards prevention and early detection is essential in re-imagining healthcare, rather than merely treating illnesses." "" "However, re-imagining healthcare along these lines is a multifaceted issue. For instance, many people across different markets cannot afford the cost of proper nutrition, which is crucial for leading a healthy life. Health awareness is low, particularly in low-income markets. To address these challenges, a complete mindset shift among healthcare systems and practitioners is necessary. Additionally, we need to be strategic in implementing technology in less developed markets, at a lower cost. But we must be humble and recognize that technology is not a cure-all for re-imagining healthcare globally. Instead, a genuine re-imagining requires a complex interplay of the public sector, education, and infrastructure (in the broadest sense of the word).
